Just purchased a LNS gun from a pawn shop for $250 out the door. The action, barrel, and forend all have matching serial numbers (224453) making it 1925. Action locks up tight, the 26" barrels are in good shape with original bead, and everything seems to be in good working order.

However, I think the wood furniture has been reproduced. The stock has a raised-cheek piece built in. The forend doesn't have a button or lever to remove it. The butt plate is brass colored. And finally, it's in really good shape (not 90 year old wood). I will take pics when I get home, but none of this furniture is stock, is it?

Also, I can't find any stamps that demonstrate if it's 2 1/2" chamber or 2 3/4". Would that year of production indicate the chamber size? I only plan to shoot doves and quail with it so hoping 2 3/4" #8s will work well out of it.

Thanks,

Nice Score...

But, sorry...I'm not an expert.

The wood does not look like original to me. The Buttstock should not have a cheek rest. The forearm looks good but maybe new wood. There should be a serial number on the forearm also, but that would be just the metal. The original wood maybe was damaged so the new was put on. Does hurt the value but you got the gun for a very good price. To check the chamber, place an object down the barrel till you hit the end of the chamber and the measurement is from there to the actual end of the barrel (not the extractors) It is most probably 2 3/4". It was most probably a field grade gun as most times if it was a higher grade it would be stamped on the water table next to the "12" gauge. If the action is tight I would shoot the gun with low power shells (no heavy or magnum loads). To be perfectly safe get a gunsmith to check it out. It is pretty hard to "break" a Lefever Nitro Special. Enjoy your shotgun! Thanks Donald.

Thanks guys. It's at the local gunsmith getting a once over and confirmation of the chamber length. No charge as I'm a member there and will give peace of mind.

2.75" is the verdict.
