Hello Ithaca gun owners! I have searched trying to find something about an old Ithaca gun I have. Everything leads me to dead ends. I sincerely hope someone on this site can help me in some way. Me & my husband was a devoted gun collector, of which I have many now. My wonderful husband of 30 years passed last year 5/23/2010 due to sicknesses. He was also a proud dedicated VietNam veteran. So now I am trying to get some of the guns appraised but this Ithaca I cannot find! Please help me if you can. I would appreciate any info. I also have pics of the gun.
New Ithaca Gun, dates and #s stamped on gun is May 25 1880 June 1 1880. 17736 A12. It is a dbl barrel. On the trigger is engraved GB Weis I thank anyone who could help me!

Welcome to the Ithaca Owners Forum keptwoman80 !! Sorry to hear of your loss...

New Ithaca Gun ( NIG ) were introduced in 1888 and discontinued in 1915 ...

(Those dates: May 25 1880 / June 1 1880 are not the dates of manufacture)

The other numbers are:

Serial# = 17736.............. Quality/Grade = A................. Gauge = 12

*********************************************************************

According to the book I have in front of me, a field grade 12 gauge NIG double can be valued by the system below:

NRA Grading System

GOOD......FAIR.......POOR

$295.......$175.......$100

GOOD = At least 80% finish present, good working order, could be restored.
FAIR = At least 30% finish present, gun may or may not shoot, rust and pitting prevalent.
POOR = Hardly any value except maybe to a collector...basically a wall hanger.

Smaller gauges ( 10 and 16 ....20 is extremely rare ) command a price premium over the 12.

*************************************************************************

Hope this helps...

If that be true about the years why is this one got May 25 1880 & Jun 1 1880 stamped on it? Also stamped is OLD T???24087. The 17736 I suppose is the serial number and then A12. My husband always said it was a collector gun and I guess that is why he hung on to it so many years.

I believe this to be an old gun.. just from a little bit of research i found this: http://www.pooshka.com/a.php?aid=11661#images
It looks similar to your gun keptwoman but cant tell for sure. Also thinking it is between 1888-1908 as that is when NIG (New Ithaca Gun). models were made. Ill see what else i can dig up.
So sorry to hear that about your husband.

Edit: Have you pulled the foregrip off the bottom of the barrels as that is where you will find the serial number. The other number i think is a model number or something else im not sure. I could be wrong but trying to be helpful. I cant appraise a gun myself but i can dig for info. :)

Howdy, and welcome to the club! I have a go to page I can share ( I hope, Im on my phone) if you'd like to look up the serial number.
http://ithacagunrepair.com/IGSN/IGSN.html

You just need to spend about 5 minutes looking it over to be sure what gun you own. You just click on the tabs and It has a drop down list.

I hope you find it's a keeper!

The numbers are stamped inside where you take the gun apart. That's where 17736 A 12 and the dates are. Stock end part of gun. I took pics outside for better lighting and they turned out great but I can't seem to get them to upload to this page!?!

Shooter has it. Looks like he is spot on with the info he put on his first post. The A 12 threw me off as part of the serial number and since he obviously knows more about Ithaca guns than I do his appraisal is probably correct too. We would like to see those new pics though.

According to the serial # list here on the website, your gun would have been made in 1892.

Really interesting gun. Wish that your other pictures would load, as I would love to see them.
