It can be long rifle, long, or short. What do you like an nd why? I've got me an new toy (you can read about it in the firearms section) and it's hungry!

Also, hollow point or solid? What say you?

I'll use anything but Remington. I get more duds from remington that all the others combined.

I have good luck with both Federal and Winchester bulk pack hollow point copper clad bullets. I DO NOT like Remington ammo and prefer copper clad bullets because they cause fewer problems in my semi auto hand guns especially in the Colt conversion kit for the 1911.

Wow, not much love for the Remingtons. The last bulk pack that I bought was federals and I thought they were horrible, but that was through my old 10-22. I went shooting with a buddy and my oldest boy this morning and he handed me a piece of a box of federals and told me to shoot them up. He hated them through his Ruger and 1911 .22. But out of all I shot through the new Henry I only had I've dud. So maybe they ain't all that bad after all.

He was shooting a bulk pack if Blazer and was having zero problems. Oh, did I mention that new little Henry is sweet!

I agree on the Federals. I absolutely hate them! I work too hard to get into a good position for a shot at a squirrel, only to hear the gun go 'click'!
This is one place that I like Winchester ammo.
And you were asking, solids for practicing and plinking, and hollow points for hunting.

I use bolt action, single shot, and lever action rifles, so they usually eat anything I feed them. The 10-22 I had was finicky, and liked CCI the best. For plinking I usually by what ever is on sale, for accuracy I go with Eley (made by Remington), or Aquila.

i'm still trying to find out what my 581 likes best .

takes awhile going a brick at a time.
what i do know so far is that while it'll cycle rem ammo fine ,it shoots all over the place and can't hold a consistant pattern.

before that i did shoot a few federals thru it ,it shot ok groups ,nothing great , but i had a few missfires.

i need more , so i'm thinking some CCI's or maybe some win's this time

I need to try some of the Winchesters. I've shot a lot of CCI and they have always been good, but they are pricy.

Federal Bulk 550 rounds are cheap, reliable .22 rounds I use as general purpose. CCI stingers are my hunting rounds, and I've never had a problem with blazer.
Stay away from Remington though its absolute junk! Last time I had a bulk pack of "golden bullets" and the bottom of the case ripped out as it fired on my Ruger 1022...Never will go back to it again. Also they are in my opinion the dirtiest rounds. I like Remington center fire ammo, just not their rimfire. ;)

CCI and Blazer are great brands, but want to know the irony? Federal, CCI and Blazer are all made by ATK. Estate, too for that matter. Ialways figured that while they were making CCI's whatever fell on the floor was sold to Remington, but now I think they are just labeled Federal

Go figure.

Tonight I just picked up a box (500 rounds) of the federals. Well give them another go. I bet it was just the Ruger that didn't like them. My buddy has trouble with them out of his too but they did well out of the Henry.

I also picked up some CCI shorts. I've never shot shorts before. Garden pests watch out.

I'm partial to PMC myself. A brick of, PMC "Sidewinder" came with a Winchester M-69A I bought some years ago and shoots very well in all my .22s, not always the best, but right up there with anything short of "target" ammo I can buy. I like it so much I bought several cases in 2007 and have it stored in plastic containers.

I shoot a lot of .22 mag and Winchester just always feeds best in both my 681 and 77/22. when it comes to varmints, I use Hornady .22 Mag with V-max bullets, they are super accurate and if you do get a misfire, call the factory, they will replace it.

As for plinking with a SS Marlin 66, bulk Winchester feeds best, Fiocchis hot and accurate but hard to find at times. Fiocchi uses a special process to put the primer powder mix in the case and you will seldom if ever have one misfire. They are preferred by Olympic shooters.

CCI just doesn't like my firearms and I have no issues with Federal, so far. Shotshells leave too much residue all over me and the gun so don't use them.
