Has anyone noticed that this place has gotten to be rather quiet lately. Have not heard from many folks who used to be quite regular. I wonder where they have gone? Seems as though most of the recent posts do not have much to do with Ithaca Firearms. Would be great to get back into some interesting topics that include Ithaca products.

Was at the Nationals at Friendship.
Hasn't been too much chatter about SxS's for a while. A flash in the pan, a puff of smoke, and a prayer to the great Lord on high...

Well, its been over a week now. So far we have a reply to a really old post, Happy Canada day, Happy July 4th, and some information on knife steel. All good stuff but not much in the way of Ithaca guns.

OK then...tells us about your Ithaca(s) 1977cutcher !!
Do you hunt...target shoot...compete with them. If so, post the info in the correct subforum category... |

I haven't even done much in the way of loading lately, (odd for me). Been busy with a .45 Commander I built up on a G.I. frame.

Let's see some pics of that GI .45 krag !

I'll get some soon. I tried a 1991 Colt slide assembly and wasn't happy with the tight chamber with cast bullets, then ran across a pre-70 slide only that I built up with an Ed Brown barrel. That one's a shooter! Even with the tiny factory sights. |

Lookin' forward to the pics...!!

Here's a photo of it in it's original G.I. configuration. A late WWII Remington Rand 1911-A1. No modifications have been done that can't be reversed in just 20 min. to restore it back to it's original G.I. self.
Here's the first Commander conversion attempted with a 1991-A1 slide assy. The firing pin block must be removed from the '80 series and later Colt slides in order to fire on these older frames. The Colt barrel proved to have a very tight chamber and unsuitable for cast bullet feeding reliability. Same slide assy shown with a full size Springfield Armory slide assy I built up for this gun twenty years ago with a Wilson Combat barrel. Here's the final product of my alteration. A pre'70 Colt Commander slide mated with an Ed Brown match barrel on the Remington Rand G.I. slide. Function is flawless and accuracy outstanding with this combination. The holster is a "Blackhawk" inside the pants holster made in Italy. I'll say this on building a Commander on a standard size frame, if you start with just a slide, firing pin, stop, spring, and extractor from a standard slide will fit fine, of course the barrel is shorter, and requires a shorter spring, bushing, and plunger. If a Commander hammer is used, a Commander grip safety is also needed, mine uses a G.I. grip safety modified to clear the Commander hammer, all other frame parts are the same as a standard 1911/1911-A1. |

A WWII Remington Rand is a thing of beauty...

Shows the versatility of the basic 1911 frame.

...the reason it's still around after over 100 years !!
