I've been wanting a Marlin lever gun for a while, preferably pre safety. Well today I took that old Browning A5 out to the lgs just to see what might arise.

Low and behold there in the rack was a Marlin 336SC in 35 Remington from 61-62 according to the serial number, in about 90% condition. It even had dust on it where it'd set around so long.

Short story, I traded my shotgun that I had $50 in and another $50 and brought her home. I'm pleasedas punch!

I'm afraid I devalued it today. I shot five rounds out of it and get this..... Wore a little bluing off the loading gate. That's right before today it had all the bluing on the loading gate!

This may be te best $100 rifle I've ever bought!

35 Remington? I bet it's a beaut. You just can't kill a marlin. They are truly over built and last several lifetimes. Just hold it really tightly to your shoulder. Trust me.

Raven I shot mine the other day, and I thought it was a real cream puff. Of course I was only shooting 150 grain bullets. The 200 grain big boy loads will be a different story I know.

Oh, get this! Before I shot it on Saturday, the loading gate wasn't even scratched! Hehe! It is now by golly. Oh, and a feller over on shotgunworld had some .35 Remington loading dies that he wasn't using. He sent them to me for the postage. I think I'll try my hand at reloading for the old girl.

Yea, those 200's will pound you a little bit. But damn they hit hard. Real brush cutters. I would recommend reloading, I don't know about your area, but getting 35's around here means taking out a second mortgage.

In your area of KY, can you hunt with it? Here in Ohio, I'd be stuck just busting up targets at the range, which, come to think of it, is a good thing, as well.

A guy at church has a T/C pistol in .35 Remington. He and his son took a deer with it at 75 yards this year. I asked how it worked on the deer and he said it dropped in its tracks. He was impressed, he'd never heard of the .35 before e found this pistol.

OK I have to ask, how in the world do you shoot .35 Rem out of your hand?
I have a .454 Casull and that thing is beastly, .35 Rem had got to be even worse.

I don't know Jim. He said he was a bit worried about it at first, but it wasn't that bad. He said they have some kind of special compensator something or other on the barrel.

He was real impressed with the round.

Now that .454 sounds just painful.

Man that thing must shoot fire all over the place. A compensator makes perfect sense, I'll have to pay attention to how they designed it. I am curious as anything. .454 hurts like hell, which is why I practice with .45 long colt. Only reason why I have it is because when I hunt in Central NH, they have a growing black bear population. I can only shoot 3 at a time before I have to put it down. Conversely, I can shoot 20-30 .45 colts before I get tired. So I shoot about 20 rounds of .45 and then 3 rounds of .454. Then I go soak my hand in ice.

Take a look at that T/C. I think I'm seeing a new gun in your future!

Congrats on the gun! Still, as an A5 owner and lover, I don't think I could get rid of mine. If I ever let mine go, I would have to have the Mrs. occasionally punch me in the shoulder a few times for memories' sake.
