I have a smooth bore Deerslayer slug gun and I find "challenger slugs" shoot further and tighter....... And they can be shot out of rifled or non-rifled barrels

I really like using the Lightfield slugs in any of my rifled barrel shotguns...

LIGHTFIELDS are sweet but ithaca recommends atleast 1800 fps sabot slugs or faster for accuracy downrange!

My deeerslayer is not a DS-III but it likes the Remington Core-Lokt Ultras and the Remington Accu-Tips both in 2 3/4, yes I know the Core-Lokts are only available in 2 3/4.

I shoot Winchester XP3's out of both my Deerslayer & my A-Bolt 12gua shotguns.

I discovered that the Winchester Dual Bonds shoot pretty good too. 2 3/4 version

I would recommend Lightfield Hybrid Elite. Hastings are even more accurate than the Lightfields, but Lightfields kill better. I don't like pistol bullets because here where I hunt I want to flatten deer and not have to track them when it is raining...and in western Washington that means all hunting season. The brush is also thick as a jungle here.
Lightfields are accurate as heck, expand like mad and into the chest usually take a deer clean off it's feet with any decent hit. |

In reality I have yet to find any slug that I can not put into a 2 1/2 inch group at 100 yds. It's just that a select few are more accurate. If somebody wants to shoot jacketed sabot slugs there are a few out there that hit hard. Remington Core Lokts, Winchester Partitions Golds, The Winchester Paltnium Tips were a good one too. Federal Barnes Expanders and the Tipped Exapnders which are also no longer in production.
