About 0900 this morning the little Ithaca 37 found another rattle snake. This time I had the 28" Mod. barrel on it and I can assure you that 1 1/4 oz #6 shot at around 36" off of the end of the barrel gave ample pattern density for the job at hand. Down side was the rattles were blown all over, did fine the head to bury so kids wouldn't step on it or dogs get it.

Man o man. I've never run up on a rattler. You're more than welcome to my share.

They don't always rattle before they strike, especially if you startle one. In the wild I usually let them go. However a feral cat is a gonner. Maybe one will feed a rattler. I don't think I have ever run across a huge diamondback. If I did I'd probably kill it, those things are killers. But even at that I'd hate to kill one. I find snakes fascinating. And yes, I have been bitten.
