Lots of rain and mild weather last night.Took off most all the snow.Makes traveling in the woods and seeing rabbits, much easier.Out this afternoon with the 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37 and arrived back home with a pair of rabbits.

I haven't been hitting any public land.
at this point in the year winter finally showed up, so my hunting is being done on a preserve. I could have birds put out ,but instead I just scratch hunt non booked areas and at this point they aren't very cooperative i'm only shooting one or two birds a week ,but we get out and shes having to work to find em today she found one rooster. |
|
another rooster and a hen

Picked up a pair of rabbits today with the 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37.Season will be over on Monday.
|
2 roosters and 2 hens
we can hunt private regulated grounds after the general season ends so I can still chase birds that others missed at least for another week or 2 before we shut down for the year |

Nice twisted oak,
Gearing up for spring gobbler then I'm done till the fall. |
looks like we're done for the year.
we went out last wed and my pup ended up with a puncture in a front paw while hunting in heavy switch grass.whole thing is swelled up pretty good. all in all it was a good year. this was the first year where both me and the dog were in tune to what the other was doing. we learned to hunt together as a team and it paid off pretty good. we harvested just over 50 pheasants, about 2 dozen chuckers and our first and last woodcock. it took just under 4 boxes of shells to do so. we explored some new hunting areas and revisited some old ones. in the rain , heat ,in fog or snow each day was great whether we found birds or not my prewar 37R is still functioning flawlessly for a 75 year old gun. if guns could speak,i think it would be both grateful and happy. grateful for being rescued off the shelf and made whole again. and happy to see the field, doing what its made to do for now we'll just rest up and look forward to new adventures next year |

Nice report, hope the dog is ok. Man, dog and 37 in harmony, what more could you wish for? I do envy your hunting opportunities over the pond. Did you take any photos while in the field? would be nice to put images to your words

dog ended up picking up an infection and it abscessed in 24 hrs ,
they ended up lancing it, flushing it and stitching it . with some antibiotics she'll be fine for next year. the price of owning a hunting dog ![]() on the first page there are some picks from the early season for next year i'm gonna try and get some video. due to our success this year I had to buy a chest freezer. now that I got the room I might take a deer next year I also got to pack away some fresh fish I cant take the dog for deer but I can for fish .not sure where this is going but I do know shes lousy at trout fishing |

She sure is a beauty, and great pics, don't know how I missed them before. A lot of folk over here have take to wearing Head-cams and some produce some good video, where you look you shoot. Look forward to your future hunting posts
